But I did...

...because the people from the National Geographic still hadn't called, and the mums kept asking, and the bills kept mounting. 

And you know what? It was the best apprenticeship, an in-at-the-deep-end-baptism-of-fire with tricky subjects and tricky clients, and a completely wide open creative brief. 

It's remarkably unglamorous, I know. But in the end, several years working with kids turned me from a baby photographer into an almost-grown-up pro.
